  • Contingency Analysis in PowerFactory

In this thread I will show you how you can use PowerFactory to carryout contingency analysis.

The term (contingency analysis) is essentially referring to the analysis of abnormal system conditions. In general, contingency analysis can be considered as the process of evaluating the network states resulting from unplanned (outages) of single elements (such as transformers, busbars, transmission lines, etc.) or groups of elements, in terms of post-fault loads and voltages.

Contingency analysis can be therefore used to determine power transfer margins or for detecting the risk inherent in changed loading conditions.

To access the various contingency analysis related functions within PowerFactory, click on the icon Change Toolbox and select ?Contingency Analysis?. The figure below shows the functions available on the Contingency Analysis Toolbar.

You can download from attachment more details from user manual about contingency analysis.

    Re: Contingency Analysis in PowerFactory

PowerFactory help library has Contingency example.
It can be accessed by selecting File --> Examples --> Transmission System.

You can import the project by pressing the first button.

For reference, I have attached the project to this thread with video.

The 9-bus system example can also be used to demonstrate the contingency analysis function.
You can import the example electing File --> Examples --> Examples from Literature
The 9 Bus System is the first project in the list. Please press the button to import the project.

Once this project is imported and activated, we now use it to show how contingency analysis can be executed.

The project can be downloaded also from attachment in this thread.
